It’s impossible to know the answer with the information you provided, but could be the old filling is leaking and has recurrent decay under it. They will probably remove it and see what’s under it. If it’s just moderate decay, that will be removed and the tooth will be refilled. But if the tooth’s pulp is invaded by decay, then you will need a root canal.
