During pregnancy, is it normal to have upper and lower back pain?
SweetB asked:
I am only 13 weeks and I think this is too early to be having back pain. Is this correct? The pain lasts all day, every day and has been going on for about a week and a half.
I walk every day for an hour and have tried hot baths and they dont help. Any solutions as well?

Normal, each woman is different. It all depends on the baby and where they sit. Maybe you need more comfortable shoes or to sit differently to help you.
Congrats btw

13 Weeks isn’t to early for back pain. You’ve got A LOT going on in there.
And I had mostly upper back pain throughout my pregnancy. All is good
) If you’re freaking out too bad, just call the doc to ease your worries. But you’ll be having various aches and pains for the next several months. It only gets worse! lol
Congrats!!

completly normal. I started getting a sore back at 12 weeks. The reason you get sore backs is because of a hormone called relaxin that your body creates in high quantities when your pregnant. it causes ligaments to become more stretchy and this can cause back pain and make it easier for you to put your back out. I would recommend gentle exercise like walking to help keep your muscles strong. It really helps and makes it less likely for you to put your back out. If your conserned talk to your doctor or midwife they may send you to a physio. Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy

back pain
Backaches are usually caused by the strain put on the back muscles, changing hormone levels, and changes in your posture.
Recommendations:
1.Wear low-heeled (but not flat) shoes.
2.Avoid lifting heavy objects.
3.Squat down with your knees bent when picking things up instead of bending down at the waist.
4.Don’t stand on your feet for long periods. If you need to stand for long periods, place one foot on a stool or box for support.
5.Sit in a chair with good back support, or place a small pillow behind your lower back. Also place your feet on a footrest or stool.
6.Check that your bed is firm. If needed, put a board between the mattress and box spring.
7.Sleep on your left or right side with a pillow between your legs for support.
8.Apply a hot water bottle, heating pad on low setting, take a warm bath or shower, or try massage.
9.Perform exercises, as advised by your doctor, to make your back muscles stronger and help relieve the soreness.
10.Maintain good posture. Standing up straight will ease the strain on your back.
Contact your doctor if you have a low backache that goes around your stomach and does not go away within one hour after you change position or rest. This might be a sign of premature labor.
