Can a lower back injury cause pain in the abdomen and groin area?

I have a herniated disk in S1-L5 and experience periodic abdominal cramps and pain radiating into my groin area. Can the two be connected to a lower back problem?

    It is very possible to have referred pain to your groin and abdomen from a herniated disc at this level in your spine. Although the L5 nerve root innervates your butt, lower leg, and foot along with S1. It is possible that you have another herniated disc above L5-S1.
    If you sneeze or cough and that reproduces your symptoms, that is related to your back for sure.
    Be sure to have a thorough neurological exam to assess your sensation, muscle function, and reflexes.
